Highlighting someone very special—Granddaugher Lexi Brooks. She earned a Houston Baptist University scholarship for golf.
FRISCO, Texas – Record-setting 2017 Southland Championship medalist Lexi Brooks was named Women’s Golf Student-Athlete of the year along with the 2016-17 All-Academic team selections.
The Kingwood, Texas native won the Southland Conference Championship by six strokes with a tournament-record score of 210 (-3), leading the Huskies to their first team title and an automatic qualifier to NCAA Regionals. Brooks was an All-Conference First Team selection and led HBU with a 74.93 stroke average. She carded seven top-20 finishes, six top-10s and three top-fives this season. The sophomore tied for second place at the UTRGV Invitational and finished fourth at the SHSU Bearkat Women’s Invitational. She notched the team’s lowest round of the season with a 4-under par 68 at the Bearkat Women’s Invite, one of six rounds of par or better.
Sophomore Lexi Brooks won the individual title in leading the women's golf team to its first Southland Conference Championship, earning the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Regionals. The Kingwood, Texas, native picked up her first career individual victory with a tournament record score of 3-under par 210, with rounds of 71, 69 and 70, to win by six strokes. Brooks leads the Huskies with a 74.93 scoring average. Also this week, Brooks was named to the Southland All-Conference Team for the second-straight year, this season as a first-team selection, following last season's second-team honor.

Sophomore Lexi Brooks won the individual title as well, posting a tournament record 54-hole score of 3-under par 210 for a six-stroke victory. Freshman Alisa Chong, who was tied with Brooks for the lead heading into the final round, finished third, while sophomore Kaity Cummings tied for 11th. Senior Charlotte Hartshorn tied for 31st and freshman Caylee Senn tied for 33rd.

Girls and boys were grouped together and competed by age level for the Longest Drive Contest...Lexi Brooks [aka Fuzzy Brooks at the time] won with a 200 yard drive at age 9. No do overs...each kid was allowed only one drive.
